TeenInk.com

Hey everyone! I have a slight favor to ask. I have joined a writing website called Teenink.com and it is a place where teens can go and post things they have written or drawn in order to receive feedback from peers and publishers. I really would like the opportunity to be published in the websites magazine. but in order to do this I need votes. So please go to http://teenink.com/novels/romance/book/95360/A-High-School-Romance/ and read and comment if you can and then place your votes. I would really appreciate it!! And who knows, this might just be the place you've been looking for to post the things you write!  Its a great way to get your names and your work out there and receive constructive criticism.

The Hunger Games Movie!!

DISCLAIMER!! THERE WILL BE SPOILERS. CONTINUE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Hey everyone! Today I saw the new Hunger Games movie. I went with my book group from school and we had soo much fun. Here is what I thought:

Pro:

-Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss Everdeen) Did a fantastic job. She was realistic (I thought) and she showed just the right amount of emotion. She was very appropriate for each scene.

-The settings were amazing. They had just the right amount of future look to them.

-The make-up for the capitol citizens was INCREDIBLE! They looked just like I had pictured them!

-Effie Trinket was hilarious!

-I think they stayed moderately close to the book. Way closer than the first Twilight book. They did however, leave out some important facts (Like who really gave Katniss the mockingjay pin) but if I wasn't a die hard fan, I probably wouldn't have noticed.

Cons:

-I hated Josh Hudgerson as Peetah. He wasn't right for the part. He was too young looking and he wasn't as buff as peetah was described to be in the book.

- There was a lot of pre-games shots. Almost 55% of the movie, I'd say, was spent outside of the arena. That disappointed me.

-I know this will make me sound extremely sick, but I didn't like how they "looked away" when a tribute was killed. You never saw someone stabbed and you only see one kid die full on the entire time. I felt like that lost some of the gruesome reality of the actual story line.

-I also didn't like how much the camera seemed to move. I understand that they are trying to make it realistic, but the camera was shaking sooo bad the whole time, I was getting sick.

-And lastly, I did NOT like the mutations (supposed to be wolf like dogs) that attack the players toward the end. They were like giant hairless rat things. But I think that they were trying to venture away from the Twilight wolves. But that is how I pictured them when I read the book sooo. . . .

I think that is all I didn't like about the movie. Over all they did a wonderful job fitting as much of the book as they could into the short time frame that they had. As a fan, I am not totally disappointed (Like I was with the Twilight movie. . .) I try not to be soo picky because there is only so much they can do. You are not going to find a 100%- totally- like -the- book- movie, or I have yet to see one anyways. Anywho let me know what y'all think of the movie!

The Vow: The True Events that Inspired the Movie by Kim Carpenter

Hey Everyone! I know this just came out in theaters, but I am going to read the book. I haven't seen it yet but I hope to soon!
"Life as Kim and Krickitt Carpenter knew it was shattered beyond recognition on November 24, 1993. Two months after their marriage, a devastating car wreck left Krickitt with a massive head injury and in a coma for weeks.
When she finally awoke, she had no idea who Kim was. With no recollection of their relationship and while Krickitt experienced personality changes common to those who suffer head injuries, Kim realized the woman he had married essentially died in the accident.
And yet, against all odds, but through the common faith in Christ that sustained them, Kim and Krickitt fell in love all over again. Even though Kim stood by Krickitt through the darkest times a husband can ever imagine, he insists, “I’m no hero. I made a vow.” "

The Compound by S. A. Bodeen

This looks way good to me :)

"Eli and his family have lived in the underground Compound for six years. The world they knew is gone, and they’ve become accustomed to their new life. Accustomed, but not happy. No amount of luxury can stifle the dull routine of living in the same place, with only his two sisters, only his father and mother, doing the same thing day after day after day. As problems with their carefully planned existence threaten to destroy their sanctuary—and their sanity—Eli can’t help but wonder if he’d rather take his chances outside. Eli’s father built the Compound to keep them safe. But are they safe—really?"

It looks like a cross between Incarceron, and the hunger games and the Maze Runner. Should be interesting!

Unwind by Neal Shusterman

This is the next book that my book group is planning to read:

" Connor, Risa, and Lev are running for their lives.
The Second Civil War was fought over reproductive rights. The chilling resolution: Life is inviolable from the moment of conception until age thirteen. Between the ages of thirteen and eighteen, however, parents can have their child "unwound," whereby all of the child's organs are transplanted into different donors, so life doesn't technically end. Connor is too difficult for his parents to control. Risa, a ward of the state is not enough to be kept alive. And Lev is a tithe, a child conceived and raised to be unwound. Together, they may have a chance to escape—and to survive."

Bunheads by Sophie Flack

This looks really cute. I don't normally like books like this, but it looks like an easy read.

"On-stage beauty. Backstage drama.
As a dancer with the ultra-prestigious Manhattan Ballet Company, nineteen-year-old Hannah Ward juggles intense rehearsals, dazzling performances and complicated backstage relationships. Up until now, Hannah has happily devoted her entire life to ballet.
But when she meets a handsome musician named Jacob, Hannah's universe begins to change, and she must decide if she wants to compete against the other "bunheads" in the company for a star soloist spot or strike out on her own in the real world. Does she dare give up the gilded confines of the ballet for the freedoms of everyday life?"

Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

This looks like it could be Hunger Games meets Divergent material. I'm not sure because I haven't read it yet. . .but I'm leaning that way.

"Since she’d been on the outside, she’d survived an Aether storm, she’d had a knife held to her throat, and she’d seen men murdered. This was worse.
Exiled from her home, the enclosed city of Reverie, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland—known as The Death Shop—are slim. If the cannibals don’t get her, the violent, electrified energy storms will. She’s been taught that the very air she breathes can kill her. Then Aria meets an Outsider named Perry. He’s wild—a savage—and her only hope of staying alive.
A hunter for his tribe in a merciless landscape, Perry views Aria as sheltered and fragile—everything he would expect from a Dweller. But he needs Aria’s help too; she alone holds the key to his redemption. Opposites in nearly every way, Aria and Perry must accept each other to survive. Their unlikely alliance forges a bond that will determine the fate of all who live under the never sky.
In her enthralling debut, Veronica Rossi sends readers on an unforgettable adventure set in a world brimming with harshness and beauty."

Every Other Day by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Looks like another Vampire and werewolfy book but it still looks good to me!

"Every other day, Kali D'Angelo is a normal sixteen-year-old girl. She goes to public high school. She attends pep rallies. She's human.
And then every day in between . . . She's something else entirely.
Though she still looks like herself, every twenty-four hours predatory instincts take over and Kali becomes a feared demon-hunter with the undeniable urge to hunt, trap, and kill zombies, hellhounds, and other supernatural creatures. Kali has no idea why she is the way she is, but she gives in to instinct anyway. Even though the government considers it environmental terrorism.
When Kali notices a mark on the lower back of a popular girl at school, she knows instantly that the girl is marked for death by one of these creatures. Kali has twenty-four hours to save her and, unfortunately, she'll have to do it as a human. "

The Tomorrow Code by Brian Falkner

Looks interesting . . . :)

" THE END OF THE WORLD started quietly enough for Tane Williams and Rebecca Richards. . . .
Tane and Rebecca aren’t sure what to make of it—a sequence of 1s and 0s, the message looks like nothing more than a random collection of alternating digits. Working to decode it, however, Tane and Rebecca discover that the message contains lottery numbers . . . lottery numbers that win the next random draw! Suddenly Tane and Rebecca are rich, but who sent the numbers? And why? More messages follow, and slowly it becomes clear—the messages are being sent back in time from Tane and Rebecca’s future. Something there has gone horribly wrong, and it’s up to them to prevent it from happening. Enclave by Ann Aguirre

My genre lately has been these really strange dystopians. Here's another one that looks really interesting.

" New York City has been decimated by war and plague, and most of civilization has migrated to underground enclaves, where life expectancy is no more than the early 20's. When Deuce turns 15, she takes on her role as a Huntress, and is paired with Fade, a teenage Hunter who lived Topside as a young boy. When she and Fade discover that the neighboring enclave has been decimated by the tunnel monsters—or Freaks—who seem to be growing more organized, the elders refuse to listen to warnings. And when Deuce and Fade are exiled from the enclave, the girl born in darkness must survive in daylight, in the ruins of a city whose population has dwindled to a few dangerous gangs. As the two are guided by Fade’s long-ago memories, they face dangers, and feelings, unlike any they’ve ever known."

Breaking Dawn: Yay or Nay Beware Spoilers!

Hey Guys! Yesterday I went and saw Breaking Dawn Part 1 with my best friend and I have to say over all, I liked it. They did a descent job. However there were a few things that I didn't like, along with some things that I thought were so good!

Bad:
-I felt like the movie was on fast forward. One minute they are getting married, then they are on a plane home. . I feel like they skipped a lot, like:
-The dream Bella has about the baby. They changed it to an insecure dream about Edward. She has never been insecure about Edward and her being together. maybe about whether or not she deserved him, but never if they were meant to be. at least I don't think so.
-I didn't like how they made Edward angry with Bella about her being pregnant. He was always supportive and never left her side. I did NOT like how they portrayed him. Also, He yelled at her! Not cool!!
-I didn't like how they skipped the first part of the book. Like the flashbacks and the car. Or the meadow, or her seeing the dress for the first time.
-I'm not really sure how I feel about Jacob's imprinting scene. I like how he explained what was happening, but I don't know, maybe they could have showed it better? I don't really know how they would, but it was ok.

Good:
-there were a lot of funny parts. I loved, loved, loved, loved the wedding, but I wish it were longer! I also loved the toasting. That was soooo funny! and I loved how Alice was yelling at everyone while they were setting up.
-I thought Bella's wedding dress, and shoes, and make up and hair, all of that was perfect! That's how I pictured her.
-I loved seeing Stephenie Meyer in the wedding. If I was her, I would want to see the most important and special part of my story coming to life. I would be like she was writing it all over again. I'm sure she pictured herself there while she sat at home in a world of her creation. And if she ever reads this, I want to say thank you to her. she has inspired thousands of people including me, and made a story we all love!
-I loved the music. I'm listening to the soundtrack as I type this and it makes me feel. . .I don't know, but the music is perfect with the movie and just as a collection of music. Summit did a great job!
-I liked how they showed the venom spreading through Bella. That was really creative and I think helped people who had never read the books realize what was happening.
-I think the actors did a way better job in this movie. Its about time!
-I loved how they made Bella look when she was pregnant. I loved that scene where Rose is helping her in the bathroom and you see Edward just broken looking at her broken body. The look on his face and on Bella's face...it was a great scene. My heart hurt for both of them.
-finally, I loved loved the scene where Edward hears the baby for the first time. !! So sweet!

Right now that's really all I can think of. I really did like it! If I was to critical, I'm not trying to be. I can't wait till the last part and I'm going to be sad when it's over. I can't wait to see what Stephenie is going to do after this. Hopefully we can expect something new from her. If you haven't seen it yet, GO SEE IT! Leave your comments below!

If it is annoying too you . . .sorry lol it does play twice because I want it to repeat while you read. I did that while I typed and I feel like it just helps the story. So Enjoy!

The Best Of Me by Nicholas Sparks

ATTENTION SPARKS FANS: Nicholas has released another book called The Best Of Me. I haven't read it yet but here's what its about:

'In the spring of 1984, high school students Amanda Collier and Dawson Cole fell deeply, irrevocably in love. Though they were from opposite sides of the tracks, their love for one another seemed to defy the realities of life in the small town of Oriental, North Carolina. But as the summer of their senior year came to a close, unforeseen events would tear the young couple apart, setting them on radically divergent paths. Now, twenty-five years later, Amanda and Dawson are summoned back to Oriental for the funeral of Tuck Hostetler, the mentor who once gave shelter to their high school romance. Neither has lived the life they imagined . . . and neither can forget the passionate first love that forever changed their lives. As Amanda and Dawson carry out the instructions Tuck left behind for them, they realize that everything they thought they knew -- about Tuck, about themselves, and about the dreams they held dear -- was not as it seemed. Forced to confront painful memories, the two former lovers will discover undeniable truths about the choices they have made. And in the course of a single, searing weekend, they will ask of the living, and the dead: Can love truly rewrite the past?'

Matched by Allie Condie

The next book my book group is reading is called Matched by Allie Condie. Its another dystopian novel and I have heard good things. This is a little about it.

"Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander's face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate... until she sees Ky Markham's face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black. "

I plan on starting it tonight. The second book just came out and it is called Crossed. Check these out!

Incarceron by Catherine Fisher

I just finished this book last night and it was not what I expected. Its about a two worlds. One is called the Outside and the other is the Prison or Incarceron. Claudia, a the warden of the prison's, daughter, is completely horrified because she has to marry the queen's horrible son. She wants to find a way out. Her original betrothed was said to have died in an accident. When she finds out that he may be alive, she does everything she can to find out more. But she thinks he's inside the prison. I have heard rumors that this book will be a movie and Claudia will be Emma Watson from Harry Potter and Finn, or Giles will be Taylor Launtner from Twilight. These seem like great picks to me. This book wasn't one of my favorites but it was still interesting to read. Check it out! And if you are interested in more, read the sequel, Sapphique.

Breaking Dawn Count-Down

Hey everyone! Breaking Dawn is just around the corner. As of today there is only 17 days until the premiere. Fans, make sure you catch the WHOLE cast on the Ellen DeGeneres show next week. Has everyone seen the trailer? I kind of feel like the new PG-13 should be the R. The Trailer has some graphic scenes. . .but then so does the book. I'm really excited for the movie and plan on seeing it several times. I will post a review after!
(I don't know how many of these are legit. . .but I googled 'breaking dawn movie posters' and this is what came up. . .)

Revised book list

I took some things out of the reading list. I decided that I didn't really want to read some of them. The list has blank spots from where I removed the books.

#11 On Summer Reading List

Hey everyone! Yesterday I finished that Nightshade book by Andrea Cremer. It was number 11 on the list. I didn't realize when I started it that it was a series. . . so beware that this book does leave off with a cliff hanger. The good news is that the first two books are out. The conclusion is to hit shelves in January. The second book is called Wolfsbane.

So this book started out with some confusing concepts. But as you continue to read, things begin to unfold and you start to understand that world that Calla has been born into. There is a pretty intense love triangle. I personally am Team Ren, the werewolf she has been betrothed too. Calla has to make a decision between her pack, and her destined future with Ren, and a life of freedom with Shay, a human she should have never met, so saved. This book is pretty relaxed. There are some intense parts but its a pretty easy read. I would recommend it. The last book is set to come out in January.
